Before the start of 2024, the team has completed initial site work and installation of all major utilities, storm drains, and retaining walls. We did not see much snow in December 2023 but winter has fully arrived in January, and 2024 is turning out to be another big snow year. Park City Mountain Ski Resort reported that it was officially the snowiest February on record, with over 102″ of snowfall for February! Deer Valley Resort also reported breaking its February snowfall record with 125 inches. As of March 1st, Deer Valley is at 292″ for the season with a 90-inch base depth.
While all this fresh snow is great for skiing, it is tough for construction. The IKON construction team has been running heavy equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, and excavators. Much of the activity in January and February focused on clearing the remaining trees at Building C and removing massive amounts of snow from the entire site. They have recently started with major excavation and shoring at Building C. More snow is in the forecast. Still, they plan to work throughout the remaining winter season, regardless of the snow and winter conditions. They successfully excavated down the first level at the back wall of Building C and are currently drilling soil nails and getting ready to shotcrete the first section. Once complete, they can go down another level.
The base section of the future tower crane was installed, and a large concrete block pad was poured for its foundation. Soon, a temporary crane will be onsite to install the long-term tower crane. The addition of the tower crane is an important milestone that will allow for the expansion of site activities.
